Books

One of the most influential books that I've read was The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. The story just kind of touched me, and amazed me as to how bad the Taliban treat their people. The next book that was most influential to me would have to be The Bitch Posse. This book shows what happens to a lot of people in high school and all the temptations and when I read it in high school I was really able to relate to it. My last choice for a most influential book is The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. This book is all about the American Dream and I believe that is important.

McLuhan's theory of "Technological Determinism"

For this blog I chose to give an example of McLuhan's theory of Technological Determinism. I chose Text messaging. Text messaging enhances communication with anyone anywhere. It reverses face to face conversing. It obsolesces land lines and even writing letters. Text messaging retrieves writing letters or even as far back as a telegram. This is an example of McLuhan's Theory. :)

Media Autobirography

I've always kind of thought I never really had any real experience with mass media, but after the first week in this class I realized otherwise.
As far as books go, I don't read them as much as I used to. Now, I only read when I absolutely have to, like for school. Reading to me isn't as much fun as it used to be for me. Newspapers have never really been interesting to me, which has always made me kind of "out of the loop" when it came to current events. Now, I still don't read the newspaper physically, but I do read articles online. I have a lot of interest in gossip magazines. I love knowing about all the celebrity drama and scandals. Movies are always fun. All movies interest me, whether they be action, romance, historical, etc. Recordings and radio kind of go hand in hand for me because I only use them for music. Music is important to me because I'm a dancer. The only time radio is a part of my life is when I'm in a car, so i don't dance in the car. For dance, I mostly use my iPod. Television is like my happy place when I'm home. I get a kick out of watching all the really fake reality shows. They very much entertain me! Internet probably plays the biggest part in my life. It helps me to communicate and stay in touch with people, as well as get school stuff done and any other things. Of the eight types of mass media, I would definitely have to say that internet has the biggest role in my everyday life.
